If only because of the media and the omnipresent presence, Paco Rabanne’s name goes beyond a person, an image, a celebrity fashion designer or a person known to any contemporary.

The purpose of this book is to expose and to make Rabanne known, to answer the big question: who is really behind this successful label?

Documentaries about his figure on television, airport advertising, publications, the memory of his creations and the famous characters who were subject to his work, Rabanne is a highly recognized figure, yet the importance of his contributions or the extraordinary talent spread in different creative, artistic fields is not sufficiently known or explained.

Rabanne naturally combines fashion, design, cinema, theatre, in short, merges his artistic activity with activities of a social nature; such as helping a monastery that caters to AIDS patients, helping sub-Saharan artists or the solidarity and friendship with people fleeing from Francoist repression.

This multifaceted artist has been projected into different disciplines in addition to design, and offers a way of understanding fashion and dressing far from traditional concepts of haute couture.

His view of the real meaning of fashion and design in society as an element of representation or his views on the empowerment of women as active people, and his criticism of fashion designs that dominate and limit the free expression of women’s potential and power...

His life is as far away as possible from the pomp attached to an internationally dimensional figure, the direct outcome of his spiritual and mystical quest to approach God and reflect on human nature...

Thanks to this exhibition, the attendees will meet directly the most eccentric and perhaps dreamlike Rabanne; the genius wizard. Or maybe a humanist who is way ahead of his time.

Rabanne Space

Today there is no Rabanne Space in the world, but there is an intent. This has always been demonstrated by the designer Paco Rabanne, and the Foundation is born, therefore, to defend the desire and will of Paco Rabanne himself to promote a Centre of Culture and Innovation in Pasaia.

“Many cities around the world have wanted to have a Rabanne museum, but I’ve always declined because it had to be in Trintxerpe. We need to create a space, a place to work, learn and communicate in which creative people play a fundamental role” - El Diario Vasco 2003

It is an active space with a great cultural and innovative role. The goals go beyond the municipal level, from the local to the global.

The Paco Rabanne Centre for Culture and Innovation is an integrated center of services for the production of art, design and fashion at the local, national and international levels.

“The space is not going to be big and it will be constituted by other elements, but it needs to be something alive, regenerating, in which there is always something going on”

It is a question of developing an experience of local economic growth that promotes business and cultural activity in the design sector, attracting investment, generating employment and wealth.

In order to achieve the Center for Culture and Innovation in Pasaia, the Foundation will work towards strengthening such a space with the intention of highlighting the great potential of the project as well as its social, economic and cultural impact on the area.
